The Legacy of Imam Husayn
Through the words of Shahādat-e-Imām Husayn (RA), explore the sacrifice, courage and enduring spiritual legacy of Imam Husayn (RA), with reflections connecting the events of Karbala to faith and life today.

Reconnecting Our Hearts with the Blessed Ahl al-Bayt
For many Muslims today, however, the names of Imam Hasan, Imam Husayn, Sayyidah Fatimah, Sayyiduna Ali, and Sayyidah Zaynab رضي الله عنهم have become familiar names rather than living examples of faith. Many of our children know very little about the noble family of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, despite the Prophet ﷺ repeatedly reminding the Ummah to love and honour his household.
This project seeks to help change that.
Rather than simply presenting the lyrics of a nasheed, we have provided reflections and lessons inspired by each verse. Our aim is to help readers appreciate not only the events of Karbala, but also the timeless Islamic values that these events teach us.
These reflections are written from the perspective of mainstream Islam and are intended to strengthen our love for Allah ﷻ, His Messenger ﷺ, the noble Companions رضي الله عنهم, and the blessed Ahl al-Bayt.
We pray that this project encourages every reader to deepen their understanding of Islam through the remarkable example of Imam Husayn رضي الله عنه and his family.

What We Hope to Share
Through these reflections we hope to:
- Increase our love for Allah ﷻ through the example of His righteous servants.
- Strengthen our love for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ by learning about the family whom he loved so dearly.
- Reconnect Muslims with the noble Ahl al-Bayt and their outstanding character.
- Help parents introduce their children to the lives of Imam Hasan, Imam Husayn, Sayyidah Fatimah, Sayyiduna Ali, and Sayyidah Zaynab رضي الله عنهم.
- Encourage families to read, reflect and discuss Islamic values together.
- Show that Karbala is not only a historical event but a timeless lesson in courage, patience, justice and sincere worship.
- Demonstrate that true success is measured by faithfulness to Allah ﷻ rather than worldly power or victory.
- Inspire young Muslims to develop strong Islamic character by following the examples of the Prophet's ﷺ family.
- Encourage a love of authentic Islamic history rooted in the Qur'an and Sunnah.
- Remind ourselves that the greatest legacy of Imam Husayn رضي الله عنه is not merely his martyrdom, but his unwavering submission to Allah ﷻ.
A Message to Parents
Children learn best through conversation.
We encourage parents to read these reflections together with their children. After each verse, take time to discuss the questions, lessons and Qur'anic teachings. Encourage children to ask questions and share their thoughts.
You might ask:
- Why do you think Imam Husayn رضي الله عنه refused to compromise his principles?
- What does courage look like today?
- How can we show love for the Prophet ﷺ and his family?
- What would you have found most difficult about Karbala?
- What qualities of Imam Husayn رضي الله عنه would you like to develop in your own life?
Sometimes a five-minute conversation around one verse can leave a greater impact than reading an entire book.

A Reminder
These reflections are not intended to be a detailed historical account of Karbala, nor are they intended to enter into sectarian discussions.
The lyrics are devotional poetry and therefore contain poetic language and imagery. The accompanying reflections seek to explain the Islamic values inspired by these lyrics through the guidance of the Qur'an, the authentic Sunnah, and the understanding of mainstream Islam.
Our intention is not simply to remember the tragedy of Karbala, but to remember why Imam Husayn رضي الله عنه lived, and why he gave everything for the sake of Allah ﷻ.
A Living Legacy
Imam Husayn رضي الله عنه does not ask us merely to remember him.
He asks us to live like him.
To pray with sincerity.
To speak the truth.
To stand for justice.
To honour our parents.
To cherish our families.
To remain patient during hardship.
To trust Allah ﷻ when life is difficult.
To love the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and his blessed family.
If these reflections inspire even one family to pray together, learn together, and grow closer to Allah ﷻ together, then, by His ﷻ permission, this project will have achieved its purpose.
May Allah ﷻ increase our love for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, bless us with sincere love for his noble family and all Companions رضي الله عنهم, and allow us to meet them in Jannat al-Firdaws.
Āmīn.

Chorus - Line One
اللہ کی رضا ہے محبتِ حسینؓ کی
Transliteration
Allah ki raza hai muhabbat-e-Husain ki
Translation
“The love of Husaynؓ is beloved in the sight of Allah.”
Reflection
The opening line of this nasheed establishes one of the most important principles of Sunni Islam: loving Imam Husayn رضي الله عنه is an extension of our love for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Our affection for him is not based merely on history or family lineage, but on his unique status as the beloved grandson of the Prophet ﷺ, one of the leaders of the youth of Paradise, and a member of the blessed Ahl al-Bayt.
Allah ﷻ chose the family of the Prophet ﷺ for a position of honour among the believers. The Qur'an reminds us of the special status of the Prophet's household, while the Sunnah repeatedly demonstrates the immense love the Messenger ﷺ had for Hasan and Husayn رضي الله عنهما. He would carry them, embrace them, kiss them, and publicly express his affection for them so that the Ummah would recognise their lofty rank.
Therefore, when a believer loves Imam Husayn رضي الله عنه, that love is not independent of faith; rather, it flows naturally from love of Allah ﷻ and His Messenger ﷺ. Every Muslim who sincerely follows the Sunnah should hold Imam Husayn رضي الله عنه in the highest esteem and pray for Allah ﷻ to be pleased with him رضي الله عنه.
The lyric poetically expresses that such love is pleasing to Allah ﷻ. This should be understood as an expression inspired by the teachings of Islam: Allah loves those who love His Messenger ﷺ, and loving those whom the Prophet ﷺ loved is among the signs of sincere faith.
Qur'an & Sunnah
Allah ﷻ says:
"Say, 'If you love Allah, then follow me; Allah will love you and forgive you your sins.'"
(Surah Aal 'Imran 3:31)
The Prophet ﷺ said:
"Husayn is from me, and I am from Husayn. Allah loves whoever loves Husayn."
(Jami' al-Tirmidhi, 3775 – graded Hasan)
The Prophet ﷺ also said:
"Hasan and Husayn are the leaders of the youth of Paradise."
(Jami' al-Tirmidhi, 3768)
Lessons
- Loving Imam Husayn رضي الله عنه is part of loving the Prophet ﷺ.
- The Ahl al-Bayt occupy a special place in the hearts of Muslims.
- Our love for righteous people should strengthen our love for Allah ﷻ rather than replace it.
- Love in Islam is demonstrated by following the example of those whom Allah ﷻ and His Messenger ﷺ honoured.
Reflection for Today
In an age where many famous personalities are admired for wealth, power or influence, Imam Husayn رضي الله عنه reminds us that true greatness lies in faith, sincerity and unwavering obedience to Allah ﷻ. Loving him should inspire us to adopt his character, strengthen our attachment to the Sunnah, and deepen our appreciation for the noble family of the Prophet ﷺ.
